Wind River Indian Reservation homicide victim identified from August shooting

In late August, County 10 reported that the FBI was looking into a homicide on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Several tips pointed to a shooting incident in a residential area near 17-Mile Road, southwest of Riverton. One witness who wished to remain anonymous said he heard a “series of gunshots rapidly” overnight between Sunday, August 26th and Monday, August 27th.

The Wind River Police Department had no comment on the matter but referred us to the FBI regional office in Denver. The FBI confirmed they were looking into what was indeed a homicide, but did not release any information about the death.

This week, the Fremont County Chief Deputy Coroner has released to the Associated Press that they have ruled the death a homicide officially.

The victim of the shooting was also identified as 29-year-old Lawrence J. Oldman. The Coroner’s report said Oldman bled to death after a gunshot wound perforated an attery.

The FBI regional office in Denver confirmed they are still investigating this incident, but would not specifically address if there were any suspects.
