#Snapped: St. Stephens students cheer on dog sled teams Wednesday

21 students from St. Stephens Indian School were given the opportunity to cheer on the mushers and dogs at Wednesday’s Pedigree Stage Stop Dog Sled Race at Sinks Canyon State Park.

Students have been learning about the race by tracking their favorite mushers through each stage of the race. As all of the teams crossed the finish line, they were greeted with a thunderous applause from each student.

24 teams raced from the Bruce’s Bridge area, up the switchbacks, to Fiddler’s Lake, and back down to the start/finish line. A total of roughly 27 miles.

Students had the chance to meet some of the support dogs including Gypsy (photo below) who had participated in the last leg of the Stage Stop, and is an Iditarod Race veteran.

St. Stephens kids and staff enjoyed warm hot chocolate, chili, candy, and received t-shirts, and other freebies from the race.
