    #Smiles: Riverton High School Speech and Debate team hosts and wins state tournament

    A series to share #smiles across our community through the achievements of our local youth, brought to you by Rendezvous Dental.

    The Riverton High School Speech and Debate team was at it again and in full force this past weekend at the Wyoming High School Forensics Association State tournament, held right here in Riverton.

    The team represented the hometown in outstanding fashion taking home the 1st place 3A trophy for the 3rd year in a row.

    Jalon Tyndall represented the team in finals in Congressional Debate. Perlene Keller made it to semifinals in Informative Speech overall and placed 3rd in 3A division. Keller also made it to quarterfinals with partner Elizabeth Pierson in Cross Examination debate, Keller and Pierson placing 2nd in 3A in CX debate. Pierson also placed 6th overall in Original Oratory and 2nd in 3A division.

    Kaia Tippets advanced to quarterfinals in Poetic Interpretation and semifinals in Duo Interpretation with partner Shannyn Kreitzer. Joseph Thornton claimed 1st in Poetry overall and 3A division. Thornton also claimed 4th in Dramatic Interpretation overall and 2nd in 3A division. Savana Whitehurst was a semifinalist in Humorous Interpretation and semifinalist in Dramatic Interpretation also claiming 3rd place in 3A division.

    Partners Abigale Lipson and Hunter DeVries took 2nd in Duo Interpretation overall and 2nd in 3A division. Carolyn Thornton was awarded 2nd overall and 1st in 3A division for Humorous Interpretation and with partner Isaac Armajo-Ponce earned 1st overall and 1st in 3A division in Duo Interpretation.

    Coaches Annette Thornton and Becca Pierson-Lewis couldn’t be prouder of their team, not just for their performance at this showing, but for their consistency and perseverance all year long. They have epitomized hard work, dedication and sportsmanship this season, which culminates next weekend in Green River with their National Qualifying competition and the closing of the 2018/2019 season.
