Rustlers Harrier finished in top 150 at National Meet: CWC Sports Recap from the weekend

How the Central Wyoming College Rustlers fared this past weekend:

Men’s Basketball:   The Rustlers went 1 and 1 at their 2nd home classic in as many weekends.   Central pounded Rexburg United Thursday 117 to 66 for their first win and first ever win for head coach Brad Schmit.   The Rustlers would fall on Saturday to Snow College 102 to 79. Cold Shooting doomed the home team who built an 11 point halftime advantage, but, saw it turn Snow’s way to the tune of 63 to 29 in the final 20 minutes.   Central would shoot only 30% from the field in the half after shooting 58% in the first half. CWC is now 1-3 on the season and will head to Scottsbluff for games against Williston State and Western Nebraska next weekend.

Women’s Basketball:   The Rustler women fell twice on the road in Price, Utah.  They dropped a 64 to 41 decision to Eastern Utah on Friday.  26% shooting from the field along with only making 10 of 24 free throws spelled defeat for Lindsey Fearing’s team.  Saturday they held a first quarter lead over Snow College but saw the Badgers come back to win 63 to 54. Paulani Tarawa (SO-Orem, UT) scored 22 to lead Central who again had an off night shooting the basketball.   The CWC women are now 2-2 on the season and will play Snow again, next, in Casper along with Northeastern Junior College this upcoming weekend.

Cross Country:   Five Rustler runners went to Garden City Kansas for the National JC Championships.   Thirty-mile an hour winds, cold temperatures, and a hilly course made for slower times for all runners involved.    Brayden Kovick (FR-Green River) led the men’s team finishing in the top half of the field of 284 races in 145th.  Parker Jones (FR Rock Springs) was less than 40 second behind but finished 175th. Paige Flock (FR-Greybull) led the ladies going 162nd in the field of 293.    Its the first time in the short history of XC at Central for a men’s top 150 finish (Kovick) and a top 200 finish for a woman (Flock). Jared White (FR-Wyoming Indian)  and Breanna Beaslin (SO-Evanston) also competed for CWC.
