Local authorities responded to several accidents Monday; Area roads still slick in spots

The Riverton Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol all assisted several motorists Monday with traffic incidents.

The majority of these incidents were minor 2-vehicle collisions or vehicles that had slid off of the roadway. In some cases, vehicles had become stuck off the road and needed assistance getting pulled out.

In Riverton, there were 2-vehicle collisions reported near College View and West Main, and a crash on the 900 block of West Main Street.

A one-vehicle accident resulted in a vehicle sliding off the road near Lewis and Spencer streets and then colliding with a street sign. On Highway 789 just outside of Riverton, a vehicle slid off of the road and into a fence.

In a more serious accident, a 2-vehicle head-on collision was reported outside of Shoshoni on Highway 789 at 1:20 p.m. Monday. The Wyoming Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation and we have not heard a report back about this yet.

Several area roadways remain slick in spots. Local authorities are urging motorists to use caution, especially when accelerating and braking. Give yourself a few extra minutes to get to your destination when roads may be icy.
