The newly forming Travelers’ Aid Society held its first meeting of 2020 today, January 7th, at the Riverton Public Library. The group first met in early December to discuss setting up a “Traveler’s Fund” to assist folks stranded in Fremont County.

The small group currently consists of representatives from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Volunteers of America, and local churches. However, more community involvement is needed to get the program off the ground. In particular, volunteers willing to take on leadership roles such as the director to oversee the program, and board members who will be hands-on and active in their position.

The “Traveler’s Fund” will help non-residents stranded in Fremont County due to financial reasons, vehicle troubles, etc…get home or to a larger city with more available resources. Removing pressures on our already limited local resources and organizations so they can focus on helping Fremont County residents in need.

The program will work on a voucher system with local businesses. The vouchers can be redeemed by the person at the specified business for food, lodging, gas, taxi, etc…and the company would be paid for their services through the fund. Several other similar funds across the state use the voucher system as well.

If you are interested in joining the Travelers’ Aid Society board, becoming the director, or are a business owner willing to work with the voucher system, please reach out to Vicki Hill at (307) 858-0046.

They plan to have the leadership roles filled and finalized at their next meeting on Tuesday, February 11th starting at 10:30 am. The meeting will be held at the Riverton Library and community members are encouraged to attend.
