Shoshoni Town Council approves allowing fireworks at gun range for July 4th

(Shoshoni, WY) – The Shoshoni Town Council unanimously approved a proposal to allow fireworks at the local gun range on July 4 from 8 p.m. to midnight, aiming to provide a safe, controlled location for residents to enjoy fireworks while reducing fire hazards in town.

Councilman Stetler introduced the proposal during the council’s Tuesday meeting, suggesting the gun range as a suitable venue for Independence Day celebrations. The proposal comes after discussions with the Shoshoni fire chief, who recommended against permitting fireworks within town limits due to fire risks.

“I talked to the Shoshoni fire chief. His recommendation was to not open up fireworks in the town due to fire hazards, which I absolutely thought the same exact thing,” Stetler said.

The council selected the gun range as an alternative to traditional in-town fireworks displays. Stetler reported that he had reached out to the Shoshoni Gun Club, which expressed no objections to the plan.

“According to the vice president at least, and I asked him to send a message to the president to make sure there’s no heartburn if we allowed fireworks on the 4th of July at the gun range,” Stetler explained.

The proposal aims to strike a balance between public safety and holiday traditions. By designating a specific area for fireworks, the council hopes to minimize the risk of fires while still allowing residents to celebrate.

The proposed time frame for fireworks is set from 8 p.m. to midnight, with council members considering the needs of families with young children who might want to participate earlier in the evening.
