Lander Police Department and City of Lander – 4th of July safety reminders

As the 4th of July approaches, the Lander Police Department and the City of Lander would like to remind the community about important safety measures and regulations. This holiday is a busy time for our community, with Lander’s population doubling in size. We urge everyone to drive slowly, safely, and cautiously. Please be patient and respectful with each other, event organizers, and first responders.

Main Street Parade Closures and Detours

Main Street will be closed in both directions from First Street to the Main Street and Amoretti Street intersection starting at 9 AM to accommodate the 1 Mile run and the parade. Detour signs will be in place to help navigate through town, with Amoretti Street serving as the designated detour route. Please be aware that these detour routes will be congested.

Northbound and southbound crossover streets will remain open at Second, Seventh, and Ninth Streets until the parade begins at 10 AM. During the parade, these crossovers will be closed and will reopen once the parade concludes. The Fifth Street crossover will close at 9 AM to facilitate the kid’s portion of the Challenge for Charities races. All streets, including Main Street, will reopen after the parade.

    Fireworks

Citizen fireworks are permitted within the city limits on the 4th of July from 10 AM to midnight. Fireworks are not allowed on Main Street, any city-owned property (including rodeo grounds, airport parking lot, City Park, parks, Lander Golf Course, and City owned property), or the area east of the Fremont County Detention Center between Amoretti and Poor Farm Road.

Additionally, fireworks are prohibited on school district parking lots or properties. Fireworks are not allowed along the parade route, and one block north and south of Main Street during the parade. Please honor this tradition by cleaning up your fireworks debris.

Water Balloons and Fireworks During the Parade

To ensure the safety of parade participants and animals, water balloons and fireworks are not allowed on Main Street during the parade. In addition, fireworks are not allowed within one block north and south of Main Street during the parade. The percussion from fireworks can spook horses and other livestock.

    Parking on Main Street

There will be no parking on Main Street starting at 2 AM on July 4th to prepare for the Lander Pioneer Days parade and the Challenge for Charities races. There will also be no parking on the 100 block of North First Street. Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.

    Open Container

The City of Lander allows open containers within city limits from 9 AM to 11:59 PM on July 4th as per Resolution 1344. Please drink responsibly.

    Chairs on Main Street

Chairs may be placed on Main Street sidewalks, but this is at the owner’s risk as chairs may be lost or stolen. Chairs cannot block pedestrian traffic or ADA platforms. Sidewalks are public property, while parking lots are private property. Permission is required to place chairs on private property, and property owners may remove them if they wish. Do not place any chairs on the south side of the 200 block of Main Street between 2nd Street and the Carwash prior to 9:45 AM as the race timing system will be placed in this area.

    Pets

The Lander Police Department will not be picking up stray dogs running at large on July 4th. There are two kennels available at Lander Pet Connection for emergencies or vicious dogs that need to be quarantined. Please ensure your pet is safe and secure on the 4th of July. Make sure your pet has a collar and an updated identification tag with current contact information. A current photo of your pet may also be helpful in case your pet gets lost.

Let’s all celebrate this Independence Day safely! Thank you for your cooperation and have fun!
