    Jury trial for Whiteplume v. Riverton Police Department set to commence in April of 2025

    (Riverton, WY) – The initial pretrial conference for the case of former Detective Billy Whiteplume vs the Riverton Police Department (RPD) took place today, July 1, before the
    Honorable Judge Kelly H. Rankin, where the tentative timeline of further proceedings was announced.

    At this time, a five day jury trial has been set for April 7, 2025.

    • Filing Deadline – January 22, 2025
    • Response Deadline – February 5, 2025
    • Dispositive Motion Hearing – February 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
    • Stipulations as to facts proposals – February 26, 2025
    • Motions in Limine (motions relating to the exclusion of evidence): Filing Deadline – February 26, 2025, Response Deadline – March 5, 2025
    • Final Pretrial Conference – March 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

    The initial pretrial order document concludes by stating that, “The settlement possibilities of this case are considered by the undersigned Judge to be fair,” but those settlement possibilities were not made publically available.

    Whiteplume, a former detective for RPD and member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, is suing RPD for racial discrimination, retaliation and a hostile work environment.

    RPD went on to deny the allegations in Whiteplume’s complaint, and the subsequent pretrial conference was scheduled (and later reset).

    As stated above, the jury trial is scheduled for April 7, 2025.
