June 25 incident at Walgreens stemmed from fake bomb threat scam call

(Riverton, WY) – It was reported yesterday, June 25, that the Riverton Police Department (RPD) and responder crews were in heavy presence at the Walgreens located at 845 N. Federal Blvd., for reports of an undisclosed threat.

After assessing the scene, RPD was able to determine the threat was a “hoax,” and the RPD call log issued on June 26 clarified that the threat was in reference to a phone call where it was claimed that a pipe bomb had been placed in the store.

Around 2:26 PM yesterday afternoon, RPD was informed by a Walgreens employee that the store manager received a call from a male “with a slight accent,” the call log states.

The man then reportedly advised he had “placed a pipe bomb in the store but would not detonate it if she purchased $5,000 worth of gift cards and gave him the numbers.”

“Although this was an apparent scam a thorough search of the premises was conducted by Riverton Fire and RPD just to be on the safe side and no devices were found,” the call log concludes.
