Join the Wyoming Wildlife Federation to Bust Some Bitterbrush

Critical mule deer habitats near Lander are in need of habitat improvement projects, and the first step calls for the collection of bitterbrush seeds. Collected from local thriving bitterbrush shrubs, the seeds can be saved and used in future projects, in an effort to improve mule deer forage.

Join the Wyoming Wildlife Federation and the 10 Country Chapter of Muley Fanatic Foundation on Wednesday, Jul 24, 2024 at 5 pm south of Lander to bust brush and collect seeds! Volunteers will meet the large vehicle pullout along Red Canyon. Afterward, enjoy the sunset accompanied with great local food and beverages, over one of Lander’s most striking landscapes, provided for all volunteers with the support of the LOR Foundation.

Partners of the Bureau of Land Management will identify the elevational gradient ideal for seed collection, the day of the event, to ensure volunteers and staff are placed on top of the best possible collection site.

The restoration of bitterbrush in certain areas is critically important in mule deer diet year-round, and can be a primary source of survival in the winter when plants have died off and are buried beneath the snow. Bitterbrush plays a crucial role on the Lander Front, and will benefit greatly from the upcoming seed planting projects. It is so important to have volunteers on July 24’s Buck Brush Seed Collection Day, so be sure to RSVP at wyomingwildlife.org to help organizers plan for work supplies, food for the event, and keep you up to date on the specific project site the week of the event.

A special thanks to the Lander Bureau of Land Management for bringing this project forward, as well as 10 Country Chapter of Muley Fanatic Foundation for making the project possible.

Paid for by the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
