Inaugural Wild West Shootout Cornhole Championships this weekend in Riverton

(Riverton, WY) – Bags will be flying at the inaugural Wild West Shootout Cornhole Championships June 28-30 at the Chandelle Event Center, 3445 Chandelle Blvd., by the airport. This cornhole tournament is open to everyone and all skill levels. Folks can preregister or show up before the event(s) they want to do.

“I’m working really hard to make it a feature event that folks will travel to yearly,” shared event organizer and Fremont County Cornhole President Ed Newbold.

So far, folks are traveling from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming.

Ed shared that this event is a unique format because usually, a tournament is just an ACL (American Cornhole League) regional event. But he’s doing both an ACL and a “Backyard” regional. This enables them to take the top teams from the ACL and Backyard divisions and put them in a “Best of the Best” Showdown, allowing them to showcase all the talent in the area, not just the ACL point chasers.

“I really wanted to showcase our wonderful area,” he said. “We have some top-rated throwers in our league, and they have always had to travel to get ACL points. From my fundraiser tournaments, I also know there are some tremendous backyard throwers out there. So I wanted to make a feature event that will show off our area and also showcase ALL the talent levels in our seven state region.

“We’ve seen some incredible growth in our league the last 3 years, and our throwers deserve to have “home board advantage” at least once a summer. Also, as we know, our area offers a lot to do for people who want to get outdoors, and I know many folks are going to take advantage of that around the weekend’s festivities.”

They are super excited to have ACL Pro and Women’s champion Yetty Irwan put on a cornhole skills clinic Friday night. The clinic is free and open to anyone.

A blind draw is where you’re partnered with a random player around your same skill level. This is a fun way to meet new throwers and throw different bags than usual.

A crew cup is a team of 4 with 2 people at each end who take turns throwing their bags to the other end of the court.

ACL Registration is live, so you can preregister now by clicking here.

Scoreholio registration (for backyard) is also live. Preregister to save time at the event(s). Scoreholio is a free app and there is a free account with it for registration.

There will be onsite concessions from a local youth basketball organization as a fundraiser. They have a good roundup of inventory. Troy’s Roll’n Chuckwagon will be on-site for meals.

They have some really nice door prizes to give away, Ed noted. Every thrower who registers will get their name put in the spinner for a door prize to be drawn throughout the weekend.

“It’s humbling to be a part of it, honestly,” he said. “To see the work our throwers are putting in and the support of the community in general, it’s been super humbling and special to be part of it.”

Ed also shared a huge shoutout and thank you to Snyder Signature Properties and County Title for their divisional sponsorships.

This event also allowed Fremont County Cornhole to be awarded the Mountain North Regional #8 tournament in Riverton coming on July 12-13.

“It’s really prestigious to be allowed to host one of those regionals,” he said.
