#Wyostrong: Local volunteer organization in Riverton provides support to Fremont County Veterans

#WyoStrong stories, brought to you by Wyoming Community Bank, highlight Wyoming perseverance, ingenuity, creativity and resilience.

Jennifer and Charlie Wilson have been the driving force behind The Soldier’s House of Fremont County for five years. This organization is completely supported by donations of time, money, and products from the community to provide local veterans a way to get additional support or fill in the gaps of other services they may already be receiving.

Jennifer described The Soldiers House of Fremont County as “a place for those of us who didn’t serve to serve those who did.”

The Wilsons have created a space that feels more like a home instead of a sterile office setting where all veterans, regardless of age or discharge, are welcome. Most of their offered services are provided at their location on Jackson Avenue in Riverton, with the exception of yoga which is in Lander.

Current services and their local volunteer:

    • Organized lunches, BBQs, etc… – John Reddon
    • Mental Healthcare, including EMDR Therapy – Charlie Wilson
    • Acupuncture – Soleiana Abernathy & Jenny Oviatt
    • Yoga – Ananda Yoga Lander
    • Craniosacral Therapy – Margie Farias
    • Healing Touch – Nancy Sehnert

All of these services are free of charge. Jennifer also noted there is a plan for an additional support group focused on the “Moral Injury,” but things are tentative at the moment.

Recently, a local veteran reached out for help with meals after an upcoming surgery. Jennifer said the community response to their Facebook post has been really great. Organizing meals and setting up assistance after the surgery is something they have not done before but is now something they can do.

Jennifer shared the biggest thing they could use is a database of volunteers willing to help. Their contact information for volunteering and monthly calendar of services can be found on their Facebook page.
