#WyoStrong stories, brought to you by Wyoming Community Bank, highlight Wyoming perseverance, ingenuity, creativity and resilience.

LVHS Sophmore Taylor Romans is passionate about volunteering and community service here in Fremont County. After watching the ‘Wreaths Across America‘ honors at Arlington Cemetery last year, she decided to bring that same honor to veterans buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.

In order to bring this day of remembrance and honor locally, Taylor had to go through a lengthy process to get approval from the mayor, city council and the Mount Hope Cemetery sexton. It is also required to be an official day in the town or you can’t do it. December 14th is now National Wreaths Across America Day in Lander. Taylor has worked on the approval process since March and that is only a small piece of being able to participate.

Taylor shared, she hand-counted 800 veteran graves at Mount Hope Cemetery and plans to raise enough money to provide a wreath for each one. A total of $10,000 would need to be raised by November 1st, 2019 to accomplish this goal. She has hit the pavement for donations and has raised around $3,000. She is also planning a paint night fundraiser at Wells Artventure in late September or October. Once details are confirmed, the official Wreaths Across America – Mount Hope Cemetery – Lander, Wyoming Facebook page will be updated with details.

Along with monetary donations for the wreaths, Taylor noted volunteers would be appreciated. Taylor has the wreath distribution planned with the Mount Hope Cemetery sexton but extra hands to help with the process will be necessary. The wreaths will arrive at Mount Hope Cemetery the day before and will need to be collected from the graves in mid-January as well.

If you’d like to donate, sponsor a wreath or volunteer you can do so by visiting the official Mount Hope Cemetery Wreaths Across America website or on the official Wreaths Across America – Mount Hope Cemetery – Lander, Wyoming Facebook page.
