(Lander, WY) – The Wyoming Singer/Songwriter Competition had its Lander showcase on Thursday, August 5th, and there were 7 musicians who shared their stripped down acoustic stylings for the evening.
Event organizer Jon Gardzelewski hosted the event, where 3 artists were voted as favorites, and the top 5 songs getting acknowledgement as well. The winner received $100 and a chance to move on to the next round.
Casper artist Sarah Carper took the top spot for the evening, with locals Raine Lesher and Kaycee Tenboar in 2nd and 3rd place.
Winning songs for the night were Carper’s ‘Take Me to Wyoming,’ ‘No Cause For Concern’ from Lesher, ‘Cowboy I’m Yours’ from Carper, ‘Bad Blood and Bourbon’ by Adam Kirkpatrick, and ‘Whiskey and Wine’ from Lesher.
Everyone competing for the night brought the musical heat, with local musician Micah Wyatt kicking things off with his songs ‘All My Good Days,’ ‘Want,’ and the toe-tapping ‘Apocalypse Song.’
Next up was Jackson musician James Curran, with the songs ‘I Should’ve Headed West,’ ‘I Didn’t Do It Lord,’ and ‘Hotels and Motels.’
Local and 3rd place finisher Kaycee Tenboer was up next, performing her songs ‘Desiderata,’ ‘Cool Blue’ a song she wrote in high school, and ‘Just A Lady!’
Preston Beasley then took to the stage to perform his songs ‘Kings and Heroes,’ ‘Blue,’ and ‘The Place.’
Lander resident Raine Lesher then stepped up to perform when Adam Kirkpatrick was unavailable for his performance slot, (there were reports that Kirkpatrick was taking part in an impromptu foot race, but these are unconfirmed).
Lesher performed her songs ‘Whiskey and Wine,’ the 5th place finisher, ‘2020,’ and 2nd place finisher ‘No Cause For Concern,’ which she had just written the day before.
When his whereabouts became known, Adam Kirkpatrick then played his songs ‘Bad Blood and Bourbon,’ the 4th place finisher, ‘Love, The End,’ which he had written just that morning, and ‘Get Back Again.’
Finishing out the night was the big winner for the evening, Casper’s Sarah Carper, whose song ‘Take Me to Wyoming,’ took home the number 1 spot, ‘Cowboy I’m Yours’ earning 3rd, and ‘Moments and Miles,’ also wowing the audience.
