(Uinta County, WY) – 74-year-old Wyoming resident Arnold Olguin was fatally injured in an October 13th crash occurring on I-80/US-189, according to a preliminary crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Four other individual were also involved in the crash, but no injuries were reported.
The report states that Olguin was headed westbound on I-80 in the right-hand lane, when his pickup collided with the right-rear drive axles and right front side of a semi trailer.
The semi had been eastbound on I-80 and was turning around in the cross-over at a gate that was closed due to a rolling road-closure on the eastbound side, when it made a left-hand turn in front of the pickup in the westbound lanes.
The pickup then collided with the semi, and entered into a counterclockwise rotation.
The right-side of the pickup then collided with the left rear corner of a different semi trailer, which was parked in the emergency lane on the westbound side of I-80, also due to the road closure.
At this time no other possible contributing factors were given, but the report indicates there was improper use of the seatbelt.
To date, there have been 91 fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021, compared to 107 in 2020, 128 in 2019, and 93 in 2018.
