    Wyoming Indian boys and girls win state quarterfinals; St. Stephens falls to Upton

    Day one of state 1A/2A basketball is in the books and both Wyoming Indian teams are moving on to the semi-finals.

    The Wyoming Indian boys survived a close game with Pine Bluffs 72-68. WIHS moves on the play Big Horn, the top team from the 2A east Friday at 9:00 p.m. in the Casper Events Center. The other 2A boys semi-final at 7:30 p.m. features Southeast and Sundance.

    The Lady Chiefs rolled past Southeast in a rematch of last year’s championship game. In 2020, WIHS beat the Lady Cyclones 56-19. Wyoming Indian faces Moorcroft in the semi’s Friday at 6:00 p.m. from the Casper Events Center. The other 2A girls semi-final features Niobrara County and Pine Bluffs.

    In class 1A, the St. Stephens boys fell to the top rated team in the 1A East, Upton, 66-50. St. Stephens led by 6 late in the 3rd quarter and were down just 2 starting the 4th quarter.

    The Eagles move into consolation play Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Kaycee at Natrona County High School.
