Wyoming Game and Fish urges safety on the ice

Unfortunately, we have already had a number of accidents on the ice this winter season and so that has prompted the folks at Wyoming Game and Fish to talk to folks about safety when you are out on the ice.

Did you know that 4 inches of ice only holds 200 pounds? While 5 inches can hold 800 pounds, which is more suitable for things like ATVs and side-by-sides on the ice. Plus the warmer weather we had and the different water levels can affect the ice as well.

One of the tips that they talk about is to call your local game and fish department and ask about the conditions for the area you are looking to fish or recreate.

Ice fishing is one of my favorite winter activities but I am getting to that age where I prefer having the shanty, a heater, and some food while I am out ice fishing. There are many tournaments for ice fishers in the area but always practice caution while on the ice. Good luck and fish on!
