When you think about salmon fishing, chances are you might not think of Wyoming. But the truth is, there are several Wyoming waterways where you can find stocked kokanee salmon.
As of 2018, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department said they stock as many as 1.6 million kokanee in the state.
Sarah Laatsch shared the photos in the story and credited the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for helping them discover the fish. “After seeing flashes of red all day floating Miracle Mile, we came across this amazing discovery” she described. “Rumor has it they were stocked in Pathfinder to keep the ecosystem balanced. The fact that they ran this far and are bright red means they’re spawning.”
