Woman faces charges for reported vehicle theft, eluding officers

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

(Fremont County, WY) – Fremont County woman Cody Brister, 35, faces a felony theft charge, a misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude police officers charge, and a reckless driving misdemeanor charge for an alleged incident occurring on January 10th, 2022.

Brister faces these charges after reportedly taking a vehicle from a Riverton residence, without the owner’s knowledge or approval, then attempting to elude officers.

Sufficient probable cause was found at Brister’s January 19th preliminary hearing, and the case now moves on to District Court, with an arraignment date yet to be determined.

On January 10th, 2022, a Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputy was advised of a stolen vehicle, last seen headed north on Highway 132 into Kinnear.

After some active communication between the FCSO deputy, other deputies, and Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), the deputy was able to locate and catch up with the stolen vehicle.

Due to the fact the vehicle was reaching speeds of 85 mph and would not pull over after the overhead lights were activated, the deputy passed the vehicle in his parol truck and stopped it in its path once he was in position.

After the driver, determined to be Brister, was detained, the deputy also learned that she had four active Fremont County warrants.

Contact was later made with the vehicle’s owner, who positively identified the vehicle and acknowledged that none of her personal items or possessions had been taken.

The owner also advised the vehicle had been taken when she left it running to warm up outside of her residence, and that it was taken without her knowledge or permission.
