    Wind gust recorded in Wyoming yesterday almost reached Category 2 hurricane level

    (Statewide) – The National Weather Service in Riverton released data for peak wind gusts over 45 mph yesterday, and according to that report a 95 mph wind gust was recorded on Chief Joseph Pass in Park County.

    This wind gust is at the high end of Category 1 hurricane classification, and just 1 mph away from being a Category 2.

    For Fremont County peak winds, a 67 mph gust was recorded in the Red Canyon South Pass area, as well as a 66 mph gust in Muddy Gap.

    Shoshoni, the Dubois airport, Elkhorn, and Beaver Rim all recorded gusts in the 50+ mph range as well.
