WIA testifies before Congress on carbon technologies

Cheyenne, Wyoming –Today, Wyoming Infrastructure Authority Executive Director Jason Begger testified in front of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy & Commerce’s Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change. The hearing was on “Clearing the air: Legislation to promote carbon capture, utilization and storage.”

Begger highlighted the innovative work happening in Wyoming; including the Wyoming Integrated Test Center and the Wyoming Pipeline Corridor Initiative.

The hearing gathered testimony for the Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act. The USE IT Act aims to support carbon capture utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) research, direct air capture research, and CO2 pipeline construction. The bill streamlines federal processes to allow for the advancement of these projects.

“Wyoming is leading the way on developing a wide-array of carbon management solutions and federal policy like the USE IT Act can help incentivize innovation,” said Begger. “The USE IT Act helps address both the need for funding carbon utilization technologies as well as helps streamline the construction of CO2 pipelines which are vital for both enhanced oil recovery and geologic sequestration.”

The Wyoming Infrastructure Authority is the managing entity for the Integrated Test Center; a CCUS testing facility located at Basin Electric’s Dry Fork Station in Gillette.

Begger has previously testified in support of the CCUS industry in front of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) in 2017 and in 2018 in front of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.
