    WHSAA sanctions women’s wrestling

(Fremont County, WY) – Women’s wrestling is a go for the 2022-2023 season after the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) passed the vote to sanction the sport. A post from the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association Female Facebook page shared the news.

Fremont County has had some female athletes competing in the sport of wrestling prior to this decision. There had been some thought of women’s wrestling becoming sanctioned sports in the state of Wyoming for several years and now it is a reality. The Ron Thon Tournament featured a women’s division this year for the first time.

County 10 chatted with the Assistant Commissioner of the WHSAA, Trevor Wilson, about the process of how it came to be. Wilson said as of right now there are a lot more questions than answers about the new program. You can listen to the interview below.
