#WhatsHappening: 50th reunion set for RHS Class of 1971

(Riverton, WY) – It’s an event 50 years in the making: the RHS Class of 1971 Reunion set for Friday and Saturday, August 27th & 28th in Riverton.

Festivities begin Friday night with a traditional Tailgate Party just before the Riverton-Powell football game. The tailgate fare sports burgers, hot dogs and brats—along with all the fixin’s, soda, and beer. Afterward, attendees can root for the home team at the game or just enjoy catching up.

On Saturday, classmates are on their own with organizers encouraging golfing, hiking, river floating, or simply reconnecting.

A barbecue at the Fire Practice Field (west of the hospital) is on the agenda for Saturday night. Classmates should bring their own meat to grill; everything else is supplied. If possible, the reunion committee suggests that folks should bring a chair or two and any games for groups. Rumor has it that Karaoke is on the agenda—complete with all the best hits the Class of ’71 enjoyed some 50 years ago.

“Sadly, we’ve lost some 33 class members [out of 200] in the last 50 years,” says Class of 1971 spokesperson Marguerite Saunders House. “The reality is: Even though we may not feel it or act it, we’re all ‘pushing 70.’ In the future, it promises to be more and more difficult for us to get together—and some we’ll not see again. We’ve always been a close-knit group, and now, more than ever, we should grab the opportunity to reconnect. We encourage everyone to pass the word, and we hope to see our classmates at the reunion in August.”

Registration monies will be collected at the reunion, and while those amounts are yet to be determined, they promise to be very reasonable according to organizers.

There are several ways that classmates can stay up-to-date with all the reunion news and let organizers know they’re coming; the first is its website. The group also has a Facebook page, as well as an email. Folks can also call or text Gary or Cinde Pfisterer at 307-851-9990.
