West Virginia couple arrested near Riverton; 4 children taken into protective custody

The Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested a man and a woman from West Virginia near Riverton on Friday afternoon. Four children were taken into protective custody after the arrest.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol received multiple reports of a pickup truck pulling a U-Haul trailer with six occupants.

K2 Radio first reported that callers suggested that the group had been seen panhandling around the Casper area and that the children were believed to have been riding inside of the U-Haul. However, when the Wyoming Highway Patrol located the vehicle near Riverton, there were no children inside of the trailer.

Upon investigation, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers learned that the U-Haul trailer was overdue for return. Additionally, neither adult had a valid driver’s license. A vehicle search revealed a mason jar full of marijuana. Because the trailer was overdue, the woman was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, and no driver’s license. The man was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, and no driver’s license.

Additional details about this case should be released Monday afternoon, we’ll update this story when and if we learn more. The identity of the individuals was not yet released.
