We put the new McDonald’s World Favorites Menu to the test

Last week the County 10 team headed out on a foody adventure. To go where no 10’r had gone before. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration. We really didn’t have to go far. Even though our intention was to try McDonald’s creations from around the world, we only had to head down to North Federal Blvd. in Riverton. Will didn’t get to use his airline miles, but he did get a McFlurry so he was super happy.

The McDonald’s World Favorites Menu has only a few items but each one is insanely different. Trying to choose a sandwich (btw there were only 2!) was a task in itself. They each sounded great and weren’t that intimidating considering they were “worldly”. It was a fast foody dream come true.

The menu consisted of these 4 items:

    • Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger (Spain), make it a double if your hunger is a little more extreme
    • Tomato and Mozzarella Chicken sandwich from Canada (crispy or grilled)
    • Cheesy Bacon Fries (Australia)
    • Stroopwafel McFlurry (The Netherlands)

The Cheesy Bacon Fries felt like something you’d get at Fair in the US rather than a trip down under to Australia, but wherever it’s from….They’re fries with this creamy cheese sauce and just the right amount of warm bacon pieces, so you can’t really go wrong here. Throw another Cheesy Bacon Fry on the barbie!

The Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger had a very distinct sauce. McBacon sauce with the gouda cheese is definitely not something you’ll taste every day. At first, we thought it might just be too much. There was A LOT of bacon and then a bacon sauce, plus the gouda flavor – yikes!

But it totally works and makes for something very different that you should work into your rotation before this limited time menu is over.

The chicken…what can we say about the chicken? A lot! The sauce made this sandwich and there was plenty of it. We preferred the crispy to the grilled for the crunch factor, but that’s totally a personal preference – both were sandwiches we plan on ordering again…and probably again. The tomatoes were really fresh of the Roma variety. Go Spain!

The Stroopwafel McFlurry – this makes the entire menu! Stroopwafel isn’t the most common U.S. treat and most of us had never had it before… if you haven’t, it’s these thin waffle pieces held together with thick caramel and wrapped in maple flavor (yes, you CAN wrap something in flavor)….it’s a little like we imagine packaged snack heaven is like.

This McFlurry chops up the stroopwafel into little caramelly nuggets of holy-awesomeness and then throws it in ice cream….why are you still reading this? You should have left to go get one. Now!

Overall, the experience was fun because trying new things is always an adventure and the items are really solid. Nothing on this menu is as exotic as a sushi burger or something like that, but maybe we’ll see something a little crazier in the future if this menu is successful.
