In June 1963 a partial failure of Worthen Reservoir, along with heavy spring snowmelt and a 3-inch rainfall caused a large flood throughout the community of Lander. The overflow was the most severe flooding seen at that time according to Fremont County documents.
The overflow 56 years ago caused permanent damage to some residential area property, and to outlet pipes that were completely washed out. Emergency repairs were made to the east side of the Reservoir to help prevent an issue like this from happening again.
Recently, YouTube user Diana Olson uploaded some video footage captured around the Lander-area of the historic flooding.
