The University of Wyoming has proposed to end its geography department and eliminate most of its geography degrees beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
According to a Laramie Boomerang report, the university’s Office of Academic Affairs has decided to suspend enrollment for geography degree programs.
Students can still currently minor in geographic, however. UW cited low enrollment, and “faculty resources are insufficient to support programs.”
Fewer than 20 undergraduate geography degrees were issued in each of the last seven years. One of the department’s graduate programs had not had a graduate in seven years.
