Trial for Wind River Tribal Court judge will be delayed

As County 10 reported in March, Wind River Tribal Court Chief Judge Terri Smith has been accused of two felonies.

She’s accused of both distributing cocaine and sending text messages in reference to distributing controlled substances.

On March 27th, Smith appeared in court in Lander and pleaded not guilty to both charges. She was released on a $25,000 bond. At that time, Smith was ordered to return to court for sentencing on June 3rd.

In April, the Wind River Inter-Tribal Council released a brief statement on the situation.

On May 2nd, Terri gave birth to her second child. According to the Casper Star-Tribune, Smith filed a motion to request a delay on the sentencing for maternity leave.

United States District Judge Alan B. Johnson granted the request. She will be due back in court in July.
