#HeadsUp: Three recent reports of internet fraud in Fremont County

This #headsup is brought to you by Bailey’s Tire and Auto Service.

It’s reported all three transactions took place on the internet. However, the fraud sources were all different. Two instructed the purchaser to pay with gift cards and the third was a wire transfer. One of the purchases may turn out to be legitimate and there is a problem with the shipping company.

Fremont County Undersheriff Mike Hutchison says, “When conducting business with an unknown individual, especially via the internet, a request to pay with gift cards is always a “red flag” and almost always indicates a scam. If anyone instructs you to purchase gift cards, iTunes cards, or prepaid credit or debit cards of any kind and then provide the numbers, it is a scam. Once the numbers have been provided, the scammers can take all of the money and there is no way to trace or recover the funds.”
