It’s reported all three transactions took place on the internet. However, the fraud sources were all different. Two instructed the purchaser to pay with gift cards and the third was a wire transfer. One of the purchases may turn out to be legitimate and there is a problem with the shipping company.
Fremont County Undersheriff Mike Hutchison says, “When conducting business with an unknown individual, especially via the internet, a request to pay with gift cards is always a “red flag” and almost always indicates a scam. If anyone instructs you to purchase gift cards, iTunes cards, or prepaid credit or debit cards of any kind and then provide the numbers, it is a scam.
