Suspect named, charged with first degree murder in relation to February 25 stabbing

    All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    (Fremont County, WY) – Kevin Mendibles has been charged with first degree murder, in relation to the fatal stabbing that occurred on the Wind River Reservation on February 25, 2024, which resulted in the death of 37-year-old Inez Whiteman.

    The federal indictment filed on May 16 states that Mendibles “willfully, deliberately, maliciously and with premeditation and malice aforethought unlawfully” killed the victim by means of “beating” and “stabbing.”


    A motion for detention was filed on May 16, and a warrant was issued for Mendible’s arrest on the same day.

    At this time there is no additional information available, and no further hearings have been scheduled.

    A murder in the first degree felony charge holds a maximum sentence of mandatory life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and 5 years of supervised release.
