Last Saturday, members of the Riverton Soroptimist set up a table just outside the doors to
Smith’s Food; ready to hand out copies of a supply re-stocking wish list from the Fremont County Alliance Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault staff.
“We really weren’t sure how this was going to go,” said Barbara Stapleton, President of
Riverton Soroptimist. “It’s been such a very hard year for so many people. We were astounded. Everyone was sympathetic and it was heartening to see the men and women of Riverton stretch their budgets to help the victims of domestic violence.”
The help came in an overwhelming wave. The donations of personal items filled a truck. And Tuesday, delivery day to the Shelter, the donation box left at Smith’s was also full. Soroptimist members and Shelter staff unloaded a small mountain of personal supplies into their living room. Due to Riverton’s incredible generosity, they were also able to deliver $235, plus a $45 gift certificate donated by Walmart. Both will make a big impact on a short budget.
Soroptimist and the Shelter staff along with all the women and children who need the
services of the Fremont County Alliance want to give a big shout-out and “Thank You” to Smith’s Food and to all the citizens of a most generous Riverton.
