    Stolen truck found in Pilot Butte Reservoir Saturday; Another vehicle set on fire Sunday

    At 1:51 p.m. Saturday, August 4th Fremont County Sheriff’s and the Wind River Police Department responded to a call about a truck found, in six feet of water.

    The truck, which was later found to have been reported as stolen, was found in Pilot Butte Reservoir, which is in the community of Morton, about 6 miles northwest of Kinnear.

    According to the Sheriff’s call log, “It had been pushed off a cliff into the water and was completely submerged in about 6 foot of water.”

    A Search & Rescue team helped get the vehicle out of the water, and it was eventually towed into Riverton.

    Fremont County Sheriff’s confirmed there was no one inside of the vehicle during the accident.

    Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee confirmed with County 10 that the vehicle had been reported stolen,

    The vehicle in the water was signed stolen by the owner through the Wind River Police Department.  The vehicle was located by the owner and she contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

    Lee noted that Pilot Butte is not in the Sheriff’s jurisdiction.

    Saturday’s incident was not the only vehicle-related call police received at Pilot Butte last weekend.

    On, Sunday, August 5th at 11:03 a.m. a call came in about a vehicle on fire in a parking lot at the reservoir.  Ryan Lee also explained this situation to us,

    The other vehicle was a vehicle that had been abandoned by the owner at the same lake.  It had been vandalized on one occasion and now someone decided to burn it down.
