Soroptimist International of Riverton swap signs and honor Carol Maulik

Members of Soroptimist International of Riverton met last week at the Welcome to Riverton sign on North Federal Blvd to retire the Soroptimist International Emblem and replace it with the new, brighter logo adopted by Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Several members of SI Riverton were in attendance, along with guests: Ashley Strickland, Director of Riverton Chamber of Commerce, Joyce Skaggs, daughter of Carol Maulik, and Rob Stortren and Nick East of Star Trims, the company that made the new logo signs.

Soroptimist members took this opportunity to honor and to remember the contributions of their eminent Member-of-Longer-Standing, Carol Maulik, who passed away last year. SI Riverton chartered in March 1974 and Carol joined in January 1975. That’s 45 years of volunteering, of contributing to the mission of improving the lives of women and girls.  Riverton President, Barbara Stapleton said, “Carol was the heart of our club and we miss her. When you see the new logo, smile and think of Carol and all she meant to us and to Riverton.”

The Maulik family has been very supportive of the Riverton Soroptimist, both with generous donations, and with encouragement and emotional support. Carol’s son, Mitch, was unable to attend, but wrote, “seeing a sign acknowledging the Soroptimist organization on it as we enter town will bring a smile to us every time we drive past.  We will be reminded of how important Soroptimist was to her….”

Soroptimist International has Clubs in over 177 countries, and for administrative purposes is divided into four Federations by geography. Each Federation has adopted its own logo. The new sign in Riverton is the public face of Soroptimist International of the Americas, which includes not only North, Central, and South America, but Japan, Korea and most of the South Pacific. Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
