#Snapped: RPD Mounted Patrol will be all across town this summer

The Riverton Police Department will be seen via horseback throughout the community this summer.

RPD Police Chief Eric Murphy explained the horses provide a practical advantage for law enforcement to navigate places they couldn’t by vehicle and to move quicker in some cases than they could on foot.

The horses have a less-practical purpose though in that, well, they’re cute.

They draw crowds everywhere the officers go, which helps RPD make community connections.

Recently, the Mounted Patrol trained at Central Wyoming College’s Equine Center. The training is held each year and helps officers learn new skills on horseback, and build bonds with their new four-legged crime-fighting partners.

Officers were spotted on horseback last weekend at the City Park Splash Pad opening / Alive at Five concert event. Keep an eye out for them throughout the warmer months, and go say hello!
