Small demonstration in Riverton outside of Senator John Barrasso’s office Friday afternoon

A small demonstration took place Friday afternoon in Riverton near the intersection of Fremont and Broadway, which is in front of Senator John Barrasso’s Fremont County office.

The picketers told County 10 that they were hoping Senator Barrasso would do his part to end the Federal Government shutdown. “We’re concerned with people’s livelihoods, it’s affecting so many people in our county and across the nation. They aren’t being paid, they’re still going to work,” one of the men said.

Just moments before the planned demonstration, President Donald Trump announced a deal to temporarily open the federal government for three weeks, or through February 15th. Trump said the measure allows government workers to resume being paid. He said the current plan did not include funding for a proposed border wall. He hopes for continued negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over the next three weeks about a border project.

Demonstrators in Riverton told us that they were aware of today’s’ events and hoped that it would bring a resolution to the shutdown for good, and not just for the three week period.
