Feature Image h/t Ryan Tinnelli via Oil City News

If you’ve lived in Fremont County or Wyoming long, you’ve heard tales of the Yellowstone Drug Store. The magic spot in Shoshoni that made shakes and malts that drew people from all over the state as they passed through town.

Today, it’s just a memory, but something equally unique inhabits the building: Tinnelli’s House of Wonder Cartoon Theater and Factory.

Earlier this week our friends at Oil City News in Casper shared a great feature on Ryan Tinnelli’s current projects at Tinnelli’s House of Wonder in Shoshoni. Tinnelli is a Casper artist and current owner of the historic building in Shoshoni that used to house the original Yellowstone Drug Store and many other things over the years.

The building was built in 1906 by C.H. King, the grandfather of President Gerald Ford, according to Tinnelli who bought the building in 2006 and started giving tours. It was declared a National Landmark in 1992. Tinnelli has refinished the House of Wonder in a style he describes as “a cross between like psychedelic art, antique metal and it’s got a kind of Victorian elegance to it.”

One of the newest attractions at the House of Wonder are hand-drawn cartoon animations being created entirely from scratch. They can be seen in five theaters in the building.

The newest creation is “Border Challenge” which, according to the Oil City article, required over 600 hand-drawn images. Tinnelli worked for almost a year with another artist, Savva Worden and didn’t allow any erasing while they worked. “Border Challenge,” says Tinnelli, is meant to be a “South Park-ish” political animation about Trump’s US-Mexico border wall.
