Shoshoni Mayor challenged all local mayors to shoot-off at high noon Saturday

The Fremont County Republican Women are hosting the ‘Shooting Competition!’ fundraiser at the Shoshoni Gun Range on Saturday, September 14th. At the end of August, it was shared on their Facebook page, “The mayor of Shoshoni has thrown down the gauntlet to the other county mayors on the shooting match!”

County 10 chatted with Shoshoni Mayor Joel Highsmith and event organizer Ginger Bennett about the challenge “throw down.” Mayor Highsmith shared, Hudson Mayor Mike Anderson had been talking with him for a while about doing a competition between the towns. Ideas of a softball game or something along those lines had been tossed around but nothing was scheduled.

In June, Ginger called Mayor Highsmith about hosting their shooting competition fundraiser in Shoshoni. Ginger noted, she wasn’t aware of the recent work that had been done to the Shoshoni Gun Range when she initially called Mayor Highsmith. She reached out because too often only the “big communities” host events and not all the municipalities in Fremont County are utilized for what they have to offer. “There’s something in all little communities that adds value to Fremont County.”

In August, Mayor Highsmith thought it would be fun to add this mayoral competition to the event. He invited all local mayors to a Three Gun Shoot competition at high noon. He said, “The Three Gun Shoot includes a pistol, rifle, and Annie Oakley style shotgun.”

At this time, Riverton Mayor Richard Gard has accepted the challenge and Lander Council Member Cade Maestas will be representing Lander Mayor Monte Richardson on Saturday. Mayor Highsmith noted they have not received confirmation from Hudson Mayor Mike Anderson yet and he believes representatives for Pavillion Mayor Marissa Selvig and Dubois Mayor John Meyer will be there as well. Ginger explained the mayoral competition is a non-partisan, non-paying competition on Saturday. A traveling trophy has been made for this event and the winner of the mayoral competition will get to keep the trophy until the next mayoral event.
