Fremont County Sheriff Ryan Lee joined us on a recent episode of the County 10 Podcast to chat about his first year as Sheriff and how the summer is going for the department.
Lee explained, “as it heats up, we get busier.” He said the Sheriff’s Department has had over 4,000 calls for service already this year and that the jail has been at maximum capacity for the last several months.
Despite the busy numbers, the Sheriff told us it’s not anything unusual as the calls for service typically are much more active in the summer months. The thing that has not been typical though, are the search and rescue efforts.

“We’ve had some pretty extensive searches that have occurred here in the county recently, I really owe a lot to our volunteer search and rescue committee who spend countless hours out there searching,” Lee said. “It can be a real struggle to be every place out there.” He said Fremont County geographically creates many challenges from, “range lands to large reservoirs to the tallest peaks and some of the most rugged mountains in the state.”
Ryan spoke about the transition from Undersheriff to Sheriff and how the department is doing overall on the County 10 Podcast.
