    Search for missing Fremont County man suspended after his truck was found last week

    The search for 70-year-old Jose Pereda has been suspended as of Sunday night, September 24, 2018.

    Pereda’s 2002 Toyota Truck was located during an aerial search Wednesday afternoon about 10 miles east of Riverton in a remote area of the Wind River Indian Reservation, Pereda was not with the vehicle. “The Toyota was stuck in a large washout along a Pipeline Road”, said Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee, “The vehicle was located by an aircraft associated with the Civil Air Patrol out of Powell”

    Search and Rescue crews, family members and citizens searched several square miles of rangeland over the last four days. The area was systematically searched by ground crews, aircraft, drones, ATV’s, K9 teams, and by horseback, with no evidence of Mr. Pereda’s whereabouts.

    “Each search crew carried GPS devices which were then downloaded to show the area covered, That information will be analyzed; additional smaller scale searches may be conducted if certain areas need to be checked again”, said Undersheriff Ryan Lee. “Volunteers have become exhausted at this point, many had to return to work Monday morning. I would like to thank everyone who assisted in the tremendous effort to locate Mr. Pereda, it has been a large community effort and cooperative operation between our agency and the Wind River Police Department” said Lee.
