Scammers have targeted Fremont County once again while disguising their numbers as local ones and claiming to be the “National Association of Firefighters.” According to a Facebook post from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, callers claim to be collecting donations for the group in order to purchase new equipment and other supplies. Victims of the scam who responded with question reportedly found that the callers were unable to answer appropriately, as the voice on the other end is from a computer soundboard. The Sheriff’s Office warns the community that these calls are not from a legitimate source.
“Local fire organizations do their own fundraising through community events, personal mailings, pancake breakfasts, raffles, and other methods that will be advertised directly from each department,” the post warns. “Donating directly to your local fire department is the best way to help them out and make sure your funds are benefiting the department that serves you.”
