This week at a meeting of the Riverton Chamber of Commerce Board, the decision was made to cancel Trick-or-Treat on Main Street this year. The annual event is a long-standing tradition but has seen a decline in attendance as well as downtown business participation in the last few years. It appears the event is only on hold though, and the board expressed a desire to refocus the event for next year.
At the Thursday meeting, Director Ashley Strickland explained to the board that “only four downtown businesses agreed to participate this year.” The majority of downtown businesses said they wanted to support the new Fall Harvest Festival and needed to choose one or the other. The Chamber is also involved with and supporting the Fall Harvest Festival.

There was a discussion among the board members that attendance at the trick-or-treat event had declined in recent years and that an effort to revamp the event should be made. Given the planning required to execute a quality event, the board made the decision to cancel the Trick-or-Treat on Mainstreet for 2019.
A statement went up on the Chamber’s Facebook page today. In it, the Chamber expresses that the decision was regrettable.“We hope you understand, as this was not something we wanted to do. We could not provide the type of event that would have provided the children and parents with a wonderful fun-filled evening. We are working towards planning something different for next year to make sure we can continue to provide a safe fun environment for our wonderful community and children.”
