“#rivertonbiz, shares the stories of local movers and shakers of our Fremont County economy.“
A long and winding road led area business people David and Brenda Stringham to open Wyoming Outdoor Gear Exchange in Riverton. With twelve years in the US Navy behind him, David began a long-standing career in the oil and gas industry, filling the role of site safety officer. Earlier in life, he’d developed a deep love of reading, and books in general, building a personal collection that would ultimately number in the tens of thousands. He eventually turned his avocation into a business, and in 2017, the Book Hunter began operations out of a van here in the Riverton area.
Flash forward to 2019, David and Brenda took the plunge and purchased a storefront in downtown Riverton, providing a permanent home for the Book Hunter and giving rise to Wyoming Outdoor Gear Exchange. Featuring a wide range of sports equipment for skiing, skating, hiking, cycling, hunting and more, the new business quickly became popular with area outdoor enthusiasts looking for top quality gear at roughly half of retail.
As inventory and popularity expanded, it was soon clear that the modest floor space in the original location was limiting business growth. Not the type to settle for partial success, the Stringham’s began evaluating empty retail spaces, ultimately identifying the former Worcester Furniture location on South Federal as the ideal match. After negotiating a purchase agreement, remodeling began and in early October of this year, the doors swung open at 312 South Federal – the new home of Wyoming Outdoor Gear Exchange, The Book Hunter, and B’s Salon de Style, the latter operated by Brenda.
Looking to the future, the Stringham’s are starting work on additional off-street parking. David plans to add additional product lines, including high-end firearm optics and accessories.
