#RivertonBiz: Local photography studio has new owners

#rivertonbiz, shares the stories of local movers and shakers of our Fremont County economy.

(Riverton, WY) – Accomplished photographers Ken Stoecklin and Lonnie Slack officially took ownership of Lehman Studio at the beginning of this year; providing long-time owner Randy Lehman the opportunity to retire.

Lehman Studio was opened in 1959 by Randy’s father Herb. In the early ’90s, Randy purchased the studio and continued his father’s legacy of providing photography services to Fremont County residents.

Lonnie and Ken shared they have known each other for around a decade, and according to the two of them, Randy, who was looking to retire, “hinted” they should buy the studio. “And that’s pretty much how it happened,” Ken noted.

They spent several months in 2020 working with Randy in preparation for the business handoff. Knowing this studio is a “community staple,” they felt keeping the name was the right thing to do.

The two are excited to work together and add their own artistry to Lehman’s classic style. They also offer portraits, seniors, weddings, commercial and fine art photography.

Ken has been a full-time photographer since opening his first studio in 2006. Over time, his focus shifted more from studio work to an opportunity that came up with photographing oilfields. After a few years of traveling, he moved his studio to Denver where he has been since 2016.

Even though it has a great art scene, it’s a hard market and expensive, Ken noted about Denver. “This [purchasing Lehman Studio] was a better opportunity to live a better lifestyle.”

Lonnie is the Photography Professor at Central Wyoming College (CWC) in Riverton. Prior to starting there in 1999, he owned and operated a studio in his hometown of Lander.

Adding to his accomplishments in photography, Lonnie also worked in local journalism as well as the Associated Press and Kodak.

A longstanding tradition of Lehman Studio is taking school photos; they plan to continue offering that service to Fremont County.
