#RivertonBiz: Genuine Meats is officially open for business

#rivertonbiz, shares the stories of local movers and shakers of our Fremont County economy.

(Riverton, WY) – Fremont County’s newest USDA livestock processing plant, Genuine Meats, opened its doors on October 4th and they are ready to process cattle, bison, hogs, and lambs.

After around 7 years of planning and building, Genuine Meats will be Wyoming’s largest USDA facility once at full capacity, according to managing partner Beau Sheets.

They are also the only known local processor to have a custom harvest floor which was designed by a person who works closely with scientist Temple Grandin, who is “a prominent proponent for the humane treatment of livestock for slaughter.”

The design is for the humane handling of animal harvesting, Beau explained.

Their opening was a bit delayed due to supply chain issues, however, they are now up and running with plans to have the Genuine Meats label of items like snack sticks and summer sausage for sale around the first of the year.

Beau shared his appreciation for the community support as well as a thank you to the local ranchers and farmers.

Those interested in purchasing meat can contact Genuine Meats for beef bundles or be connected with local farmers.

Genuine Meats is located at 4454 Airport Road and currently employs 23 community members with room to grow. You can learn more about the facility, pricing and more online here.
