The Riverton Tree Board will celebrate Arbor Day next Saturday, April 30, at two local recreational locations.
The first tree-planting ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at the Riverton Little League Ron Saban Baseball Complex on Smith Road.
The second will be at 1 p.m. at the Tyler Ray Apodaca Skate Park at Riverton City Park.
Central Wyoming Skateboarding Association president Matt Wright said the tree-planting event will “replace the trees that we took out when we built the park.”
“That never sat well with me,” he told the Riverton City Council this week.
There won’t be a need for volunteer help, Wright said, but there will be a small ceremony, and some local skateboarders will showcase their skills.
“We are just simply showing some respect to the trees and the city parks crews who maintain them,” Wright said, inviting people to “come out and see the skate park in action.”
The Arbor Day events initially were scheduled for April 23 but were pushed back a week due to weather, organizers said.
Arbor Day is on April 25 this year in Wyoming and April 29 nationally.
