    Riverton to host fallen firefighter memorial and hall of fame ceremony this weekend

    The Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office and Wyoming Local Assistance State Team recently announced the 2020 Wyoming Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service and the Wyoming Fire Service Hall of Fame Dedication and Induction Ceremony is planned for August 22nd.

    Both ceremonies will happen consecutively on Saturday, August 22nd at the Wyoming Fire Academy located at 2500 Academy Court in Riverton.

    The Wyoming Fire Service Hall of Fame Dedication and Induction Ceremony begins at 1:30 pm and is honoring Wyoming firefighters. Riverton’s very own Larry “Cap” Lee is one of the four inductees. The three others to be honored include: Gene Diedtrich, Joseph Fender, and Donald E. Young.

    At 2:30 pm, the annual Wyoming Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service begins. This ceremony recognizes and honors Wyoming firefighters “who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens of Wyoming,” according to Wyoming LAST.

    The memorial which was constructed in 1990 is located on the Wyoming Fire Academy campus and is inscribed with the names of 56 Wyoming firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1920. The years’ service will honor all 56 firefighters and their surviving family members.

    A public reception will be held immediately following the memorial service at the Wyoming Fire Academy.
