Some things are a constant in track and field. The Kelly Walsh girls and the Natrona County boys dominated the annual Trojan Invitational with each team taking second to each other in their specific gender competitions.
Natrona tallied 203 points to outdistance second place Kelly Walsh with 173.5, while the Lady Trojans score 198 to win the girls’ division with the Fillies a close second at 184.5 points.
It was tough competition for the Wolverines and Lady Wolverines.
The Riverton girls had three individual placers in a 7th place finish by Victoria Gale in the 200 meter dash, a sixth from McAye Fegler in the 400 meter dash and a fourth place leap by Ciarah Hall in the triple jump.
The trio joined with TaiLynne Keyes to place fourth in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 54.62.
The Riverton boys had a stronger team performance with Tristan Watkins taking fifth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.51. Hayden Prettyman was fourth in the 400 meter dash in 54.50 as was Jacob Castro with a time of 11:33.92 in the 3200 meter run. Zander Hinkley placed second in the 300 meter hurdles in 47.09 and Jon Hernandez cleared 10-3 in the pole vault to earn eighth place.
Kaden Chatfield placed fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:53 and joined teammates Connor Gopp, Azaniah Guthrie and Taylor Stevens for a third place finish in the 4×800 meter relay in a time of 9:28.61.
The Riverton 4×400 meter relay team of Watkins, Prettyman, Ty Sheets and Talon Prestwich was fourth in a time of 3:52.43.
Riverton hosts Lander this Friday in a dual meet if weather permits. The event was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved with forecasts of snow, wind and cold temperatures early this week.
