    Riverton resident arrested on domestic charges involving a minor

    All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    (RIVERTON, WY) – On November 24th, 2020 Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received a call for domestic violence at a Riverton residence.

    This resulted in the arrest of, William Eugene Lewis, 35, of Riverton, with multiple counts of battery, resulting in one felony and four misdemeanor charges.

    Lewis, who is facing up to 12 years in prison, was charged with Unlawful Entry into an Occupied Structure, False Imprisonment, Endangering Children, Domestic Battery, and Property Destruction and Defacement.

    According to court documents, the victim had locked Lewis out of the Riverton residence. He became angry and allegedly entered the residence by force with a “billy bat.”

    Lewis reportedly got into a physical altercation with the victim, held her hostage, and took her phone. The female occupant then fell into the closest as a result of the altercation, Lewis then allegedly proceeded to strike her leg with the “billy bat.”

    A 9-year-old child was reportedly in the immediate vicinity of the incident. During the altercation, a television fell on their head and toe causing minor injuries.

    According to police Lewis was not present at the scene upon law enforcement’s arrival. He was reportedly spotted the next day by Riverton Police Department and surrendered without incident, according to court documents. Lewis did not wish to speak with detectives at the time of arrest and was transported to the Fremont County Detention Center where he was booked for the incident from the day before.

    Lewis waived his preliminary hearing on December 2nd and is currently scheduled for an arraignment hearing on January 7th, 2021.
