Saturday morning, February 1st, Riverton Chief of Police Eric Murphy took to Facebook to announce that he is seeking medical retirement. Murphy said he suffered a stroke in September and shared that, while his health hasn’t been a secret, he hasn’t made a public statement about it until now.
His stated reason for the public announcement Saturday is that an unnamed media outlet is “going to run a story.”
As of 9am on Saturday, 77 comments showing support and encouragement had been left on Murphy’s public post. Murphy closed his post with a request for prayers and good feelings about his 23 year career.
“I received retirement paperwork this week to see if I qualify for a medical retirement. I would appreciate everyone’s prayers for me and my family as we go through this process. I have had the most amazing career as Police Officer over the last 23 years and I feel So blessed to have been able to do it for as long as I have. I love all of you and appreciate your continued support. Thank you.”
